Togakure Ryū
Tonsō no Kata
Ninpō Taijutsu is what brought many practitioners to the Bujinkan in the first place. As Sensei puts it in his book "Unarmed Fighting Techniques of the Samurai): “it is my belief that Ninpō Taijutsu has limitlessly transcended Taijutsu.” Founded in the 12th century by (supposedly) Daisuke Nishina, a defeated Taira warrior, this system is based upon the teachings of Kain Doshi which he received in the mountain of Togakushi.
The techniques presented here are the famous “Tonsō no Kata”. As they are only nine, it is important to understand that they are the essence of this fighting system. The first three techniques deal with unarmed Taijutsu, the second set of three with Mutō Dori, and the last three with Heihō, strategy. The use of Shuriken and blinding powder should not hide the deep technical level required to understand these nine forms. As always there is more than the eye can see.
